Joyce Marlene Pardon

May 2, 1937 — August 23, 2025

Roseburg

Joyce Marlene Pardon went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, in the comfort of her Roseburg residence. Joyce was born Joyce Marlene Barrow on May 2, 1937, in Effie, Minnesota, to June and Roy Barrow. Joyce and her parents, with her younger sister, Judy, made their way out west and settled in Newberg, Oregon, in 1941 during the Second World War. The family began their humble beginnings, even living in a converted chicken coop for a time. Younger brother, Ronnie, joined the family. Joyce grew up in Newberg and graduated from Newberg High School in 1955.

Joyce met the love of her life, John Pardon, at the Newberg Dairy Queen. The young lovers would wed on Jan. 12, 1957. Following their wedding, they moved to Roseburg, Oregon, where they remained for all 68 years of their marriage from 1957 to 2025. Joyce and John started a family very early on in their marriage. The couple welcomed four children into the world: Kimberlee Ann (1958), Kenneth Allen (1960), Michael Roy (1965), and Michelle Rene (1968). Through the hustle and bustle of managing a busy household, Joyce had a diverse career of working at Roseburg Pharmacy, Harvard Medical Lab, and most notably, in the Douglas County Trial Courts from 1982 to 1995.

Joyce formally retired from the workforce in 1995 to be fully present to her posse of eight grandchildren that spanned from Oregon, Idaho, and North Carolina. Grandma Joyce’s home was always open for fun, music, nursery rhymes, and creative play. Joyce had a never-ending supply of energy for her grandkids. In retirement, Joyce and John enjoyed many trips to the Oregon coast and abroad with family. They enjoyed cheering their grandchildren on at sporting and drama events. Holidays were Joyce’s favorite, and no one made them more special with food and music.

Joyce’s Christian faith was central in her life, and that is a testament to her years of service at the Roseburg Church of the Nazarene as both a Sunday school teacher and a member of the congregation up to the final days of her life. Joyce will be remembered as a God-loving woman with a strong sense of humor who grounded her family and faith in everything that she did.

In later years, you could often find Joyce at her home in Roseburg, enjoying a good Hallmark or Chevy Chase movie, baking the fudgiest of brownies, cooking the yummiest of spaghetti dinners, or just enjoying the simple presence of her family around the Christmas tree. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a great source of pride and joy to Joyce. Her grandkids knew they had a champion in their corner. She was always there with a listening ear or a word of encouragement. Her birthday cards with handwritten scriptures will be greatly missed.

Joyce is preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Barrow, father, Roy Barrow, and mother, June Barrow. Joyce is survived by her husband John Pardon of Roseburg, Oregon, sister, Judy Tucker of Milwaukie, Oregon, daughter and spouse, Kim and David Nixon of Kuna, Idaho, son and spouse, Ken and Crystal Pardon of Newton, North Carolina, son and spouse, Mike and Lisa Pardon of Roseburg, Oregon, daughter, Michelle Pardon of Roseburg, Oregon, and many grand and great-grandchildren. The family members send their love to all who knew Joyce and are blessed by all whom she touched over the years. All who knew and loved Joyce are invited to a Celebration of Life scheduled at 11 a.m. on Oct. 4, 2025, at Church on the Rise in Roseburg, Oregon.
