Kathy Rae Hogan, 72, of Roseburg, Oregon, where she was born and raised, passed away peacefully in Portland, Oregon, on Oct. 4, 2025, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Kathy was married to the love of her life, Emmett “Butch” Hogan Jr., who preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters and their spouses (her “sons”), Emiley and Monte Ketchum and Haley and Chris Lansing; her grandchildren Libbey and Ellie Ketchum and Lauryn and Maximus Lansing; and her sister Patricia Fairchild.

She met her husband at the age of ten, where they skated as a pair and went on to compete in national roller skating competitions. They remained a couple outside the rink and married in 1974, staying in Roseburg to raise their children.

Kathy was passionate about being at every event her children and grandchildren participated in and could be heard cheering fiercely over any crowd to ensure that everyone knew “Mama Kathy” was there to support! She loved feeding her family, giving gifts and taking advantage of any reason to get together for a meal or a celebration.

For more than 20 years, Kathy dedicated her career to Umpqua Community College, where she served students and veterans in the financial aid and work-study department. She made many wonderful friends during her years at UCC and would always come home with great stories about her work.

Outside of work, Kathy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved gardening, all flowers, sipping tea and spending time with her grandchildren. Her greatest passion, without question, was her family.

Even in the face of immense challenges with her health, Kathy remained eternally optimistic. She had an incredible gift for finding the silver lining in every situation and chose to see the good in everyone. Her strength and unwavering positivity inspired all who knew her.

Kathy’s legacy of love, kindness and optimism will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.

A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held at a later date in Roseburg, where friends and loved ones will gather when there is sunshine and plenty of flowers to honor her memory and share stories of a life so beautifully lived.
