Maggie Yim Yee Chan

1956 — 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of a devoted wife, selfless mother & proud grandmother, Maggie Yim Yee Chan. Maggie was born on November 21, 1956 in Kowloon, Hong Kong and passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024 in Roseburg, Oregon.

Maggie lived a fulfilling life, full of love and laughter, and touched the hearts of those she loved most. For most of her adult life, she lived across the world, away from her parents & siblings who lived in Hong Kong. With that independence & strength needed to be so far away from her own parents & siblings, she was often misunderstood. Although outwardly strong, she was protective, vulnerable & nurturing to the people she loved most. She was never one to tell you what you wanted to hear, but she would always tell you what you needed to hear, because she had your best intentions at heart.

She was not perfect, but none of us are. She was strong, willful, loyal, passionate, and always spoke her truth. Her passion for food, her zest for life, her love for her family, and her dedication to the family business & the life long sacrifices she made to provide a better life for her kids and family will be remembered forever.

Maggie is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Kit-Wing, & her three children & seven grandchildren.

Maggie was an incredible chef & had many gifts, including being fluent in three languages, but her greatest use of her talents was raising three wonderful children. Maggie was a proud mother who instilled both a tenacious work ethic & the value of education in her children to create a better life for their families & kids. Maggie was fortunate enough to watch all three of her children earn Presidential scholarships, graduate college with honors, complete graduate school & graduate from dental school.

One of her greatest milestones was that she was lucky enough to watch every child walk down the aisle. While she was never one to show affection in public, she was extremely proud to be married for 46 years to the love of her life, Kit-Wing, & took great pride in setting an example for her children on the importance of creating a strong home foundation & a stable, secure environment for her children to thrive in with two parents who remained loyal to one another & who prioritized their love of family above everything else. She lived by the fact that love was never simply words, but ultimately actions. She would do anything for her husband & her kids. Because of her & her husband’s example of devotion to one another & willingness to work as a team through what may have seemed like insurmountable challenges, each of her children went on to marry even better people & created beautiful lives together & gave her the greatest gift she could ever imagine— her seven grandchildren whom she cherished & spoiled endlessly.

We will remember Maggie as a strong woman willing to take big risks to move to another country at the tender age of 21 with a shared dream for creating a better life with her husband & her children.

Maggie was the heart of her family, and her love language was making people feel loved with a delicious home cooked meal. Hospitality, togetherness & running the family restaurant were the perfect marriage to all that was important to her. Creating time to slow down & enjoy the simple pleasures of a shared meal was a symbol of making time for family. This simple act of love shaped her kids, her grandkids & carried into her family business that helped her & her husband provide for their family, build a sense of community in a small town, while supporting their children’s dreams.

The celebration of life for Maggie Chan will be held on January 4, 2025, at 11 am, at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses located at: 965 West Harvard, Roseburg, OR. 97471. We encourage those who knew Maggie to join us and share their loving memories of this incredible woman & selfless mother. Please take this opportunity to honor her by recalling the joy, laughter, and love she brought into our lives & the lives of her children & family.

While Maggie's presence will be dearly missed, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she loved. We wish her eternal peace and happiness, as she embarks on her heavenly journey. May her soul rest in peace. Until we meet again. 安息
