Marilyn Ballard

January 24, 1933 — March 31, 2025

Roseburg

Born Jan. 24, 1933, in Coquille, Oregon, Marilyn Ballard passed away March 31, 2025, at Bridgewood Rivers Assisted Living in Roseburg, Oregon. She was the second child of Ed and Bernice Patterson.

In her early years, she moved with her parents and two brothers, Jack and Dick Patterson, to the property that is now Amacher Park in Winchester, Oregon. In her youth, Marilyn and her brothers loved skating in the building now known as the Buckaroo Barn in Winchester. Her mother worked as a professional legal secretary, while her father helped construct many of the covered bridges in southern Oregon. In 1951, Marilyn met Joe Ballard when he rented a room in the Patterson family home. They married shortly thereafter and enjoyed 54 cherished years together, supporting their four children as they grew into their own lives. Marilyn cultivated a welcoming home that served as a gathering place for neighborhood friends of the Ballard children. She actively participated in her children’s extracurricular activities, never missing a concert, play, game, or club event.

Following Joe’s retirement from Pacific Power Corp., they enjoyed winters in Arizona, cherishing their time with family. After Joe’s passing in March 2007, Marilyn continued to engage with her church friends, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren while maintaining the family home until 2023. Marilyn loved to travel and was fortunate to visit Ireland and take numerous trips to see family and friends throughout the United States. She was fiercely independent, quick to smile, eager to learn, and always ready to help others. While living at Bridgewood Rivers, she quickly became a favorite among the residents and staff. Marilyn was a longtime member of Redeemers Fellowship church. Marilyn is survived by her four children, Lynn Hansen, Judy Hanlin, Scott Ballard and his wife Orlena Ballard, Troy Ballard and his wife Jennifer Feikin, and nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please send any contributions to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. April 26, 2025, at Redeemers Fellowship Church in Roseburg, Oregon, with Pastor Mike Kildal officiating. Private interment will be at Roseburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor’s Family Chapel.
