Milton Bartholomew Jr.

Roseburg

Milton Bartholomew, a well-known and respected figure in the Roseburg community, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, at age 76, surrounded by family and friends after a life richly lived in service and kindness.

Survived by his wife Dixie and son Michael, his father ML Bartholomew Sr., brothers Lee Bartholomew, Ray Miller, and sisters Sharon Hervey and Sheryl Carson. His mother, Gladys Bartholomew, a brother, Craig Miller and an infant brother, Danny, preceded him in death.

Milton was born in Wendell, Idaho, and moved with his family to Roseburg, Oregon in the 7th grade. He attended Roseburg High School and graduated with honors. He attended Oregon State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Go Beavers, he bled orange and black his entire life.

Known for his philanthropic work and civic-mindedness in the agricultural community, he was a beacon of light in our community, touching lives through 4H and FFA. He was the General Manager of the Douglas County Farmers Co-op and a board member for the Chamber of Commerce. He received the Paul Harris Award for volunteerism from the Downtown Roseburg Rotary Club. In addition, he was inducted into the Agricultural Co-op Council Hall of Fame and represented Oregon as President of the Job Service Employers Committee.

A kind and caring father who was a supportive mentor to his son, who like many, valued his business acumen and life experience when needed. His son valued his insight and pragmatism on many topics. He was a devoted husband who loved to travel to Hawaii with his wife. He was a master at the art of grilling and loved to repair antique clocks. Leaving a legacy through Dixie and Michael Bartholomew, Milton’s memory will be a guiding star for all who knew him.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Townsend for his unwavering kindness and care of Milton throughout the years, and to Lacey Ellenwood, RN of Sunny Days Adult Foster Care for her compassionate and skillful care.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses in Roseburg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oregon Multiple Sclerosis Society.
