Mitsue Shivers

February 1, 1927 — May 23, 2024

Roseburg

Mitsue Imoto Shivers was born on February 1, 1927, in Yokosuka, Japan, to Hesa and Tsunakich Imoto. She passed away on May 23, 2024, in Roseburg, Oregon, with family by her side.

In 1951, Mitsue married U.S. serviceman Alvin Shivers in Japan. During Alvin's 20 years of service in the U.S. Army, the couple relocated frequently. They had six children together. Alvin preceded her in death in 1972.

Mitsue is survived by her children and their spouses: George (Barb) of New Mexico, Dwight (Laura) of Myrtle Creek, Rosa Mae (preceded in death in 1970), Alvin Jr. (Ginni) of Roseburg, Betty (Jeff) of Indianapolis, and Bonnie (Randy) of Elmira. In addition Mitsue is survived by two sisters living in Japan; Setsuko and Kiyoko. Mitsue was also blessed with 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

After Alvin's passing, Mitsue moved her family to Myrtle Creek, Oregon, where she would eventually take employment as the "lunch lady" at South Umpqua High School until retiring at the age of 60. During this time, she met her companion George, with whom she shared many years of travel and exploration across the United States. George preceded her in death in 2019.

Mitsue was known for her industrious spirit and boundless energy. Whether visiting friends, tending to home repairs, planting in her yard, or making daily trips to Roseburg to shop, she was always on the move. Her greatest joy came from spending holidays and cherished moments with her children and grandchildren. A dedicated mother and grandmother, Mitsue often said, "If my kids are okay, I'm okay," and reminded her loved ones with the heartfelt words: "I love you; don't you forget it."

Mitsue lived her 97 years with purpose and devotion to her family. She was the glue that held them together and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
